Creative Sydney – Buffing art in a gallery?

As part of the Creative Sydney festival in June this year weAREtheIMAGEmakers, the opening hours and ironlak put on a collaboration wall which was to be the centre piece of a show at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary art.
The mural was painted prior to the event and then buffed by Sydney Council during the event… to the surprise of the crowd who were expecting live art.

It seems like this was a demonstration of not only the quality of Sydney/Australia’s street & graffiti artists, but also a protest against Sydney Councils stance on public art.

Sydney Council needs to take a leaf out of Melbourne’s book and see the value of public art.

Artists painting in the video are Beastman, Max Berry, Numskull, Phibs and Roach.
