About Second Coat

Second Coat covers art made on and around the street: graffiti, stencils and paste-ups on the walls, the illustrators and photographers who work close to that scene, and the gallery shows that bring its artists indoors. The pages run from 2010 to 2018, with newer pieces added alongside, and reach from London and Bristol to Łódź, Berlin, Philadelphia, Hong Kong and Melbourne.

The pages fall into five groups: interviews, shows and events, prints, street art on the walls and at festivals, and artist profiles. The full list runs newest first.

How it is written

Names, venues and dates are checked against public sources where they exist, and a piece that draws on someone else’s reporting, an interview in another publication or an artist’s own site says whose it is. Interviews are told as reports of what the artist said, not reprinted as question and answer. No photographs appear, because they belong to the people who made them, so each page describes the work instead of showing it. Every piece carries the date it describes, and reads as of that date.

Pages carry no bylines, no advertising, no scripts and no cookies, and nothing is sold here. If one of them gets a name, a wall or an opening date wrong, the contact page says where to send the correction.
