URBAN NATION PROJECT M/5 – PHOTOSET

A little while back, we kicked off a project in Berlin with 11 UK artists as part of the latest instalment of Urban Nation’s Project M Series in Berlin.

Below is a visual rundown from photographers Birdman, Henrik Haven and Mark Murphy.

Eine painted the facade with his glamorous assistant Christopher Stead, whilst the other 10 artists took out a window each at ground level.

Our cover artist, Aryz (pronounced ‘Arriz,’ for the record) is one of the youngest, most talented large-scale mural painters of his generation. He’s a total monster when it comes to the sheer size of his work, so we were stupidly excited when he agreed to do a cover feature.

Rabbit Eye Movement Art Space Opening – Vienna

The Rabbit Eye Movement art space has invited 30 national and international artists with urban illustration background to come together, jam and celebrate their first event called “DRINK’N’DRAW”. All the artists, including The Weird, Jukebox Cowboys, Lords, Sobekcis & Michael Hacker have already been there a few days creating drawings together which will be shown at the opening.

The opening will also see Michael Hacker will release his first screenprint collaboration with Nychos called: “TOO MUCH METAL FOR ONE HEAD”.

For those in Vienna, the new space can be found at Gumpendorfer Straße 91. The RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT wants their new Art Space to be a platform in Vienna for local and international urban and graffiti artists. Their ambition is to give graffiti illustration the same level of recognition within the art scene as it does in cities like London, New York and Paris. Yet it will be more than a gallery; it will be a meeting point where in addition to exhibitions, all kinds of events such as concerts and art festivals will be held there.

We wish we could be there to support this opening but hope to get out their soon and check out the new space. For those of you lucky enough to be in Vienna, head down on 6th December for a night we don’t think you’ll forget in a hurry.

SheOne talks 'White Canvas Project'

Last night was certainly a busy evening for the East London art scene, but thankfully the VNA team were able to make it down to the launch of ‘White Canvas Project’ before too many free beers were consumed along the trail. The show was a collaboration with Supremebeing and featured work by Mr Jago, Will Barras, David Walker, Bue the Warrior and SheOne, who also curated it. We were lucky enough to sit down with SheOne, drink some cider, care of the event sponsor Kopparberg, and have a little chat about the exhibition..

How did the whole project come about?

I got involved when I met David from Supremebeing and he was with Dave Walker, one of the artists; they were knocking around this concept about making an art project and asked me if I’d be interested. Then they told me we were going to spend a long weekend in a secret location in the countryside painting and having BBQ’s and bonfires, so I said ‘yes definitely, I’m up for that!’. We didn’t really know what we were letting ourselves in for but luckily the five artists involved were all quite good friends already so we had a great creative weekend, all spurring eachother on to get out of our comfort zone and make something different. The concept of working on salvaged furniture and car parts was really interesting because none of us knew what we were going to paint until we got there; there was just a big heap of salvage and you just had to pick through it and see who was going to paint what. It worked out really nice.

WCP – sneak peek.

A while back we posted about the White Canvas Project and we are pleased and excited to say the show is finally upon us and set to open this Thursday.

All the work for the show was produced over two weekends in an old boat warehouse just outside of Cambridge. Check out a few snaps from the second weekend below and pop on down to the launch night on Thursday for a free Kopparberg cider.

Its here… VNA issue 10!

P1010719

Yep… Its been a long time coming but its finally arrived. Issue 10 of VNA has been a bit of a struggle but also a great pleasure to work on. (God bless Greg and his late nights working on it! Cheers dude.)

We are really happy to have D*Face as our main feature and cover artist, he has been really helpful in putting together this piece on his 10 years in Street Art. Its a great read and a real insight into all aspects of his carreer. I wont spoil it for you but we also have an interview with graffiti legend Shok-1, a feature on artist, illustrator Jess Douglas, some great photographic pieces on The Fame Festival, JR in Paris and the ARTotale festival, plus a piece on Thierry Noir and his paintings on the Berlin Wall in the 80’s and also a feature on the shoe customiser Nash Money. Plus WAY MORE!

We are launching the magazine next week (Thursday the 3rd of December) at StolenSpace gallery as part of the Stolen Space Christmas group show. It should be a great night with most of the artists featured being on the walls along with all the other SS crew. PLUS… We will be releasing the very limited edition version of Issue 10 featuring a screeprinted cover by D*Face and all sorts of other goodness.

More on that and the launch later.
