Wax Wars Battle 7 – feat. Teem

Last week saw Clockwerk take the lead over Zero, with Clockwerk going through to the Finals. This week sees Zero and Heavy Hands competing for their shot at 3rd place.

As always, all the artists stepped up, with Sprinkles going in on the canvas like a man possessed. His sick mix of Chinese and Maori influences came good with a sterling effort on the wall.

Gravis – Creative Departures

So-Cal skate company, Gravis, is hosting a photo exhibition and skate contest in Antwerp. We wouldn’t normally blog anything this heavily branded, unless it was a VNA collab, but Gravis are pretty legit and this looks kinda exciting.

Creative Departures is about exploring through travel, skating, art, music, culture and cuisine. Represented through a series of videos, it is a collective interpretation of their travels and the inspirations they draw from them.

Featuring work by creative Gravis team riders and affiliates, the pop-up exhibit will showcase artists and photographers Arto Saari, Mark Oblow, Danny Fuller, Ryan Allan, George Thompson, Taylor Dunfee, Dan Funderburgh, Russell Houghten, Kassia Meador, Davy Van Laere, Miika Saksi and Stijn Claikens.

Deb – Cupcakes and Pirates…

Top Australian artist, Deb, took a few minutes out of her hectic schedule to sit down with VNA for a chat about tattoos, going solo and hamburgers. Here’s the result:

So, Deb, tell us how you first got into art?

I was always painting and drawing all over everything since I was a little kid and even in school I always got into trouble for it, because everything was covered, all my books, all the desktops in my classrooms, my bag, the bathrooms, my school dress… I was only really interested in art as a kid and always knew I wanted to do something with it.

Sidewayz – Call To Artists

Back in 2007, a charity art exhibition called Sidewayz was put together. It was a massive success, with the 2008 exhibition opening to a huge audience at MTV Galleries. Brad Eastman (Beastman) originally curated the show, with around 65 artists from across Australia, along with a handful of international submissions.
