Murals In The Market 2016

apexer_muralsinthemarket_1xrun_finished-walls-23

Last year we were lucky enough to be invited out to 1xRUN’s Murals in the Market in Detroit. The event was surprising in so many ways, from the time taken by the team to show us what the city was really about – the once-indomitable motoring capital of the USA, with a thriving industry that birthed a lot of modern Capitalist structure, that has since come back from being slammed into depression and decay – to the amount of heart and community that the organisers put into it. With barber-chair artist chats, a roster of local events and genuine support for the artists and workers involved in the festival and beyond, one message was clear, Detroit got soul.

GCASFM – Book Fundraiser

GIVE CROHN’S A SLAP FROM ME (GCASFM) is a collaborative project founded by Matt
Strutt aka Cheffo31, to raise awareness of Crohn’s disease, with the help of some of the world’s most prolific graffiti artists, street artists and illustrators. Armed with a stack of 2000 USPS labels for artists to draw on, our aim is to turn these artistic interpretations of the title Give Crohn’s A Slap From Me, into a limited edition book
which will raise money for Crohn’s & Colitis UK. With new team members on board, designers Moose & Yeti, Andre Leitão and Joana Morgado, ex-VNA writer Ro Elfberg and media whizz Jack Shearring, the project is stronger than ever. Over 70 artists are now involved, we have a successful live art event under our belt and growing coverage of the project, we’re already slapping Crohn’s left, right and centre.. and we’ve only just begun.

THE DEEPEST DEPTHS OF THE BURROW – Nychos x Christian Fischer

THE DEEPEST DEPTHS OF THE BURROW – A Documentary about Lifestyle, Art and Subculture

Nychos is an illustrator, Urban Art- and Graffiti artist, who became known with his street concept RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT (REM) 10 years ago. The icon of the movement is a white rabbit, which has been breeding since then and has been popping up in the streets all over the globe for the past decade. This is exactly what Nychos thrives for – he travels the world to spread his art and his REM concept.

Within the last two years Nychos was accompanied by filmmaker Christian Fischer who recorded these journeys to create a full length movie. ‘The Deepest Depths Of The Burrow’ is a documentary about art, lifestyle and subculture. The movie captures the experiences of Nychos and other members of RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT within the last several years. Exceeding the Austrian scene, they flew from Berlin to San Francisco to Copenhagen to Hawaii and many more places to visit artists who all provide a unique view into their (street) culture – They lead Nychos through the streets of their home cities and show them the deepest depths of their burrows.

‘Travel to paint, paint to travel’ is the motto, which runs like a golden thread throughout the entire movie – words which capture the spirit of RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT. ‘The Deepest Depths Of The Burrow’ shows images which highlight the contrasts between Urban Art and Graffiti from various angles and captures the mutual passion for Urban Art in an unique way.

The Yok & Sheyro Exhibition

Tonight sees the opening of a joint exhibition by Sheryo And The Yok entitled ‘Pipe Dreams’ at Krause Gallery, NYC.

‘While previously seen in group exhibitions, Pipe Dreams marks their first solo show in the United States since establishing the city as their primary residence last year. Working with varying painting techniques, the artists have culled together collaborative pieces that represent their shared life together. From their nomadic travels the past year to in-jokes with their friends in New York, the Yok and Sheryo seamlessly combine their adventures into every detail of their work. For example, their hand painted vases combine eastern & western elements to portray the values of ideology, devotion, relationships, dharma and karma, depicting a narrative from the rich tales of their journey.’
