ALL GOOD THINGS

VNA_ALL GOOD THINGS_1200x1200 full

As the saying goes, ALL GOOD THINGS must come to an end and, after 10 amazing years, Very Nearly Almost Magazine is shutting up shop.

Finishing on a high that has seen the front cover graced by some of the brightest stars of the contemporary art world, including D*Face, Invader, Shepard Fairey, Futura, Swoon, Martha Cooper and more, the team behind VNA have made the difficult decision to draw this chapter to a close with an exhibition and forthcoming book.

In celebration of the incredible people that have made the magazine what it is, VNA are presenting their 10th Anniversary group show with some of the team’s favourite featured artists. 50+ artists make up this hand-picked selection of the world’s top talent, showing in one of East London’s longest-running contemporary urban art institutions, StolenSpace Gallery.

Showcasing work from all over the world, ‘ALL GOOD THINGS’ is comprised of original artworks, exclusive artist proofs and hand-finished prints from some of the leading international artists – artists who have helped shape the scene as we know it today. The VNA team has also assembled a tailored collection of some of the brightest new painters making waves across the globe.

The exhibition is all up for grabs, with artwork auctioned off on artFido and all proceeds from the auction sales donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. Bidding will begin at midday Thursday 27th April, closing at midnight on Sunday 30th April at:

www.artfido.com/vnamagazine

On the opening night, our VNA Newsstand will be bursting with back stock, including tees, stickers and other goodies – all at bargain prices. Hidden in amongst the stand, there will be a complete set of the VNA archive, from 1 to 35, available to buy from our private collection, including limited edition PP’s – strictly one archival item per person to keep things fair!

As with anything VNA-related, there will of course be a drink or two. Our friends at Sailor Jerry have kindly furnished us with a choice of delicious bespoke spiced rum cocktails and a deuce of their finest mixologists.

As if that wasn’t enough, we’ll be providing some of the lovely Soffle’s Pitta Chips to soak up some of the booze and giving away over a hundred free tacos from Luardos – served from Insa’s hand-painted taco truck.

The show opens for public viewing from 6-9pm Thursday 27th April and daily until the 30th April 11am-7pm at: StolenSpace Gallery, 17 Osborn St, London E1 6TD

Artists include:

Street Art Bar & Bikkesement “De Bajes” in Amsterdam

de_bajes01

Following the trend of similar establishments in Hong Kong and New York, Amsterdam recently opened doors to Europe’s first Street Art Bar – “De Bajes”. Located on Rembrandtplein, at the very end of the vibrant Utrechtsestraat, this unique place has been opened to business since February 16th.

With inside murals painted by the likes of D*Face, Ben Eine, The London Police, Jaune, Hugo Kaagman, Laser 3.14, Bortusk Leer and many others, “De Bajes” offers an unique opportunity to enjoy these works while enjoying your favorite drink or meal. The name of the place is a Dutch slang for ‘prison’, but the original Yiddish meaning is actually ‘home’, and coziness is one quality that is very important to the owners, as it is for all the Dutch people. Along with permanent murals that were painted recently, the place will host a variety of exhibitions for big names and up and coming street artists in collaboration with Vroom & Varossieau gallery. Currently they are displaying works by Laser 3.14, Soren Solkaer, Red Mice District and Cranio, with much more artist being lined up for the future. Aside from exciting art, “De Bajes” offers exciting menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner during day, as well as cocktails, craft beers, bar bites and a diverse DJ-programming. GCASFM – Book Fundraiser

GIVE CROHN’S A SLAP FROM ME (GCASFM) is a collaborative project founded by Matt
Strutt aka Cheffo31, to raise awareness of Crohn’s disease, with the help of some of the world’s most prolific graffiti artists, street artists and illustrators. Armed with a stack of 2000 USPS labels for artists to draw on, our aim is to turn these artistic interpretations of the title Give Crohn’s A Slap From Me, into a limited edition book
which will raise money for Crohn’s & Colitis UK. With new team members on board, designers Moose & Yeti, Andre Leitão and Joana Morgado, ex-VNA writer Ro Elfberg and media whizz Jack Shearring, the project is stronger than ever. Over 70 artists are now involved, we have a successful live art event under our belt and growing coverage of the project, we’re already slapping Crohn’s left, right and centre.. and we’ve only just begun.

THE DEEPEST DEPTHS OF THE BURROW – Nychos x Christian Fischer

THE DEEPEST DEPTHS OF THE BURROW – A Documentary about Lifestyle, Art and Subculture

Nychos is an illustrator, Urban Art- and Graffiti artist, who became known with his street concept RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT (REM) 10 years ago. The icon of the movement is a white rabbit, which has been breeding since then and has been popping up in the streets all over the globe for the past decade. This is exactly what Nychos thrives for – he travels the world to spread his art and his REM concept.

Within the last two years Nychos was accompanied by filmmaker Christian Fischer who recorded these journeys to create a full length movie. ‘The Deepest Depths Of The Burrow’ is a documentary about art, lifestyle and subculture. The movie captures the experiences of Nychos and other members of RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT within the last several years. Exceeding the Austrian scene, they flew from Berlin to San Francisco to Copenhagen to Hawaii and many more places to visit artists who all provide a unique view into their (street) culture – They lead Nychos through the streets of their home cities and show them the deepest depths of their burrows.

‘Travel to paint, paint to travel’ is the motto, which runs like a golden thread throughout the entire movie – words which capture the spirit of RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT. ‘The Deepest Depths Of The Burrow’ shows images which highlight the contrasts between Urban Art and Graffiti from various angles and captures the mutual passion for Urban Art in an unique way.

Film by Christian Fischer, an Austrian production.

Narrated by: NYCHOS, the film features interviews with: BUFF MONSTER I BUSHWICK COLLECTIVE I CONE I CURTIS I DRASTROCK I DXTR I JASPER WONG I JESSE CORY I LAMOUR SUPREME I LOOK I NYCHOS I THE YOK I TRISTAN EATON I VIDAM

TLP Print Release – The Rise of the Samurai of Paul

Their forthcoming print release titled ‘The Rise of the Samurai of Paul’ sees a trio of beaming, three-headed characters in a ‘floating city’ theme, originally hand drawn on canvas, created for their spring 2015 exhibition at the Megumi Ogita Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. The occasion was, of course, marked by more of their Lads appearing outdoors in various spots, making themselves at home all around the famously vibrant city. It is a print that condenses the ambitious, irreverent brilliance of the pair as seen in vast, outdoor paintings in far-from-home locations, from Oslo to Los Angeles.
