Vexta – Trading Places

Vexta is one of the most interesting artists to come out of Australia. She was picked up by some guy called Banksy to feature in his ‘Cans’ Festival and subsequent film, Exit Through The Gift Shop. Recently, while every other wannabe was shamelessly networking at Miami Basel, Vexta was over on the other side of the world, working hard at India’s first Contemporary Art Biennale. Despite some near catastrophic events and a very temperamental internet connection, we managed to connect with her for a few words while she painted…

Street art with scale and meaning…

Check out the scale of this!!! (Not by Banksy BTW)

Love it… and it really does have a good meaning behind it…

From the LA Times: “An anonymous band of artists painted a giant pair of scissors and a dotted line on the face of 200-foot Matilija Dam near Ojai. For years, an alliance of environmentalists, fishermen, surfers and officials from every level of government has called for demolishing the obsolete structure, which was built in 1947. (Mel Melcon, Los Angeles Times /September 19, 2011)”

RONE – l'inconnue de la rue

Rone returns with a new show and a new body of work inspired by the story of L’Inconnue de la Seine, in which the body of an unknown girl was pulled out of the Seine River in Paris.

RONE – l’inconnue de la rue from Everfresh Studio on Vimeo.

“L’inconnue de la rue (The unknown girl of the street) is my adaption of the story, in which an unknown girl deals with the death of a loved one.”

The show is set to open at BACKWOODS Gallery in Melbourne on Friday 17th of June, 6-9 pm so if you are in the area stop past and check it out.

More from Banksy… This time in NYC…

So, it seems Banksy’s North American tour has taken him to the birth place of graffiti… NYC. Having seen tweets and blog posts from various other blogs, we felt it wasnt really necessary to bang on about each and every new Banksy piece because there have been like 40 or so already!

Its a massive street campaign and an amazing tour of American cities. I particularly have enjoyed seeing his famous rats get back on the street. The balancing rat in Detroit is SICK. If you wanna catch up on all the pieces he has been putting up across the country, check out  www.ukstreetart.co.uk  This was shot in the last 24 hours by NYC’s Sabeth718

I like it.
