The Noble Art – Jamie Hewlett

This is a print that was inspired after Stuart Lowbridge and Jamie Hewlett’s good friend, Jon Brookes, was taken by brain cancer. Brookes, only 44, was the drummer of The Charlatans and a man that touched many by his music and also his magnetic personality. He had an incredible zeal for life and worked with and managed many young musicians throughout his career.
Jamie Hewlett is a renowned worldwide award winning artist known across the globe.

Al Murphy "Watership Down"

This Al Murphy print has been a big favourite at VNA towers for obvious reasons – Watership Down is a beautiful film alebit one with a serious message that as a child completely escaped me but as an adult makes me love it even more.

Al’s artwork offers a nice touch of humour about the entire thing without seeming crass or stupid. The print, originally available via POW as a screenprint it, can now be purchased as a giclee on green background direct from the artist for either £70 unsigned or £80 signed here

Herakut "Show Them"

German duo Herakut are dropping a new screenprint today to coincide with their new installation at Onethirty3, Hoults Yard in Newcastle. Nothing particularly newsworthy in a print at a show, except this one represents a slight depature for them, moving away from their darker palette to something brighter and cleaner.

Coming in at an edition of 66 (33 blue and 33 red) the 4 colour screen print is also handfinished so each differs slightly going some way to justifying the £250 price tag for a 52×38 cm print. While I like the fact these do seem genuinely ‘hand finished’, a term that’s being absued more and more as a description of “been near a spray can”, I don’t actually like them. To me Herakut’s art works so well on the streets and in originals precisely because it’s slightly dark, murky and twisted.
