Vexta – Flight Cycle – Neon Memento Mori

eggs and box

Vexta has been working hard in her Brooklyn studio on an amazing new series now available on Stupid Krap. ‘Flight Cycle – Neon Memento Mori’ sees an edition of 9 hand painted and stencilled ostrich eggs in 3 different variations.

Vexta explains about the artwork: “They explore the duality and essence of life by acknowledging both death and the true freedom life can bring. The neon ‘death bird’ depicted upon the egg is both alive and dead, an affirmation of where she has come from and from where she will return. She flies free.”

Each egg measures approx 5 x 6 inches (13 x 15cm) and comes with an ornamental stand and a sturdy wooden display box with a plexi-glass window.

Paul Insect – Allouche Gallery – Interview

Allouche Gallery, NYC, is pleased to present, PAUL INSECT: 2033, Original Works Created in 2014, on December 13th.

P1200322

Paul Insect is known for his unique and individual sharp-edged images, which draws from the absurdism of Dada and is combined with the sleekness of modernism, yielding surreal renderings that point playfully at the deep dark underbelly of adult life. In the 1990s, Insect became known for his witty stencil and spray painted works, before transitioning to the gallery scene with color-drenched canvases, which teetered precariously between tradition and something far more messed up. Never before has chaos been channeled in such clean lines.

Pioneering the way for real-life ad blockers, Jordan has spent years researching and mapping out all the New York subway adverts so they can easily be digitally replaced by a carefully curated selection of art from over 50 (and growing) different international artists. We spoke to him to get the lowdown on his subversive new app: NO AD.

Over The Desk – A VNA Book Review

Not something we usually do, and probably won’t get around to doing again for quite some time, but we thought we’d review some of the books that we’ve had spread over the desk acting as upmarket coasters for the past month.

It’s also probably the only time you’ll see publications about animal porn next to books that include the Vatican’s ltd edition record releases. Unless perhaps that sort of thing goes on at the Vatican when their librarian’s car isn’t being used to smuggle hundreds of kilos of illicit drugs. Who knows…

Now-retired Alife head honcho, Tony Arcabascio has stepped down from the pioneering clothing brand to concentrate on publishing. His latest focus is Swedish-born heavy-hitting monthly t-shirt zine, T-Post; a wearable magazine, with each ‘issue’ focusing on a different story or brand.

New York is a city of commuters. 5.5 million riders move through its expansive subway system on an average weekday. This is why we created NO AD, a mobile app available now for FREE on iOS and Android. NO AD uses augmented reality technology to replace ads with artwork in realtime through your mobile device. The app will work with dozens of common ads and will be updated regularly with new content. Try it with as many ads as possible to discover lots of new art!
