Jednakowo/Różni – Polish Urban Artist Group Show @ The Outsiders

outsiders11

The Outsiders gallery in Newcastle recently opened a group show following the global recognition and success of young Polish artists and muralists. Lead by the Etam Cru’s Sainer and Bezt, Polish street art scene bloomed in the recent years, bringing us couple of big events as well as recognizable new styles and names. Jednakowo/Różni (Equally/Various or Same/Different) is featuring original works by Robert Proch, Chazme, Sepe, Nawer, Pener, M-City and Otecki.

Mostly presenting abstract works, the exhibition is showcasing the best new contemporary urban talent from the country. From Robert Proch, Sepe, or Otecki’s more figurative works that are bordering with abstraction, Chazme’s architecture influenced creations, Pener and Nawer’s futuristic dynamic, geo based, bright colored abstract paintings, all the way to M-City’s bold stencils. With most of the artists coming from a graffiti background, having some impressive, often collaborative murals behind them, the step into gallery works was a logical and natural way of progressing. What is pretty impressive is the ease that these young talents transferred their work on a new medium, and the quality of the works created for this show.

The show opened on 31st of October 2014 and will stay on view until 29th of November 2014 @ The Outsiders in Newcastle. (Photos by Pener)

Rewire – Art x Audio – Exhibition & Kickstarter

For 60+ years art has adorned the sleeves of records, a visual expression of what’s inside, but these guys are about to Rewire that relationship.

An international line up of visual artists have created works which are now being interpreted sonically by audio artists. Effectively reversing the common record model where the artist creates an image to capture the mood of the music.

The visual works come from a curated line up of abstract urban artists. The audio artists have been selected from the vein of experimental electronic music.

Poland North to South. Part 2

Cracow

I always like going back to Cracow. It’s vibrant, multicultural and has a strong creative vibe. The art scene here however is a bit of a contradiction. The city is famous for its fine art academy and numerous galleries however street art has very little relevance. Most artist want to create large legal pieces but getting permission from local councils is near to impossible. The authorities here are conservative and don’t accept any rationale regarding the need to allow street art to flourish.
