It’s Alive…. The Chop Shop

It’s a bar, an art gallery, a music venue, a skate hub and it’s finally here…

The Chop Shop, housed in a former mechanic’s workshop, is only a temporary project – it will run for four months until December 31 after which the building is set to be torn down.

After a Grand Opening on Saturday night, the Chop Shop would be open every Friday and Saturday night until the end of the year, including documentary screenings, custom car paintings, street art exhibitions, a hip hop festival, and Halloween at the Chop Shop .

James Reka – Untold

James Reka is a young contemporary Australian artist based in Berlin, Germany. His origins lie in the alleyways and train lines of Melbourne’s inner-suburbs where he spent over a decade refining his now-emblematic aesthetic. His character work has come to represent the beginnings of a new style of street art: clean, unique and not necessarily on the street (much to his mother’s joy).  With an amazing show opening tomorrow night (6 June) at Backwoods Gallery, Reka took time to talk to Damo.

Mike Watt – Interview

Mike Watt is an Australian artist and illustrator based in Sydney, NSW. VNAussie, Damian Wardle, recently caught up with him and got him to spill the peas about all things Mike…

DW: Who is Mike Watt? How do you describe your style?

MW: I’m an artist and illustrator from Sydney. I’ve been drawing and painting walls for quite a while but I was a bit of a hermit until a year or 2 ago. I’d say my style is kind of gritty and ugly, normally showing characters with lots of characters that have lived an interesting life.
