GCASFM – Book Fundraiser

GIVE CROHN’S A SLAP FROM ME (GCASFM) is a collaborative project founded by Matt
Strutt aka Cheffo31, to raise awareness of Crohn’s disease, with the help of some of the world’s most prolific graffiti artists, street artists and illustrators. Armed with a stack of 2000 USPS labels for artists to draw on, our aim is to turn these artistic interpretations of the title Give Crohn’s A Slap From Me, into a limited edition book
which will raise money for Crohn’s & Colitis UK. With new team members on board, designers Moose & Yeti, Andre Leitão and Joana Morgado, ex-VNA writer Ro Elfberg and media whizz Jack Shearring, the project is stronger than ever. Over 70 artists are now involved, we have a successful live art event under our belt and growing coverage of the project, we’re already slapping Crohn’s left, right and centre.. and we’ve only just begun.

THE DEEPEST DEPTHS OF THE BURROW – Nychos x Christian Fischer

THE DEEPEST DEPTHS OF THE BURROW – A Documentary about Lifestyle, Art and Subculture

Nychos is an illustrator, Urban Art- and Graffiti artist, who became known with his street concept RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT (REM) 10 years ago. The icon of the movement is a white rabbit, which has been breeding since then and has been popping up in the streets all over the globe for the past decade. This is exactly what Nychos thrives for – he travels the world to spread his art and his REM concept.

Within the last two years Nychos was accompanied by filmmaker Christian Fischer who recorded these journeys to create a full length movie. ‘The Deepest Depths Of The Burrow’ is a documentary about art, lifestyle and subculture. The movie captures the experiences of Nychos and other members of RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT within the last several years. Exceeding the Austrian scene, they flew from Berlin to San Francisco to Copenhagen to Hawaii and many more places to visit artists who all provide a unique view into their (street) culture – They lead Nychos through the streets of their home cities and show them the deepest depths of their burrows.

‘Travel to paint, paint to travel’ is the motto, which runs like a golden thread throughout the entire movie – words which capture the spirit of RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT. ‘The Deepest Depths Of The Burrow’ shows images which highlight the contrasts between Urban Art and Graffiti from various angles and captures the mutual passion for Urban Art in an unique way.

Miami – Scope & Art Basel 2014 Photo-Set

We hit Miami for the art fairs this year and while we were impressed with the overall scale and sheer size of Art Basel, Scope held a few gems too… Here’s a few of our favourite shots.

Meanwhile in Ultraland – Look (Lars Wunderlich)

‘Meanwhile in Ultraland’ is LOOK, aka Lars Wunderlich’s upcoming solo-show at Epicentro art showcase his current works on canvas, drawings and prints. The exhibition centers around the series …It was all green instead.

unnamed-4

The topic of the big sized paintings is going back to a dream LOOK had as a teenager: Plunging into the fluid ground of the earth he was able to see the blurred world from below. Carrying and being inspired by this vision LOOK felt now encouraged to paint what he saw down there so many years ago. This dream considered as a starting point for the entire imagery of the artist is strongly connected to the topics he is dealing with. Meanwhile in Ultraland is a post apocalyptic world, ruled by nature.

Opening October 12th – 26th

LOOK (The Weird)- “It Was All Green Instead”

Next week sees a solo exhibition from LOOK, a member of The Weird Crew, in Mexico. It opens on Thursday 5th December at Bálsamo Galeria, Isabel la Caólica #30, 06000 Cuauthémoc, Mexico D.F.

In this exhibition, which is LOOK’s first big solo show in ages, he wants to show his view on the contemporary relation between nature on one side and the abyssal human civilisation on the other. The works discuss the evanescence of the human being and their very own way of coming to terms with their own mortality in concern to the bigger understanding of the universe and nature at all. Also the artist wants to give an insight to his feelings of security, environment and the spiritual gap of the so called first world and other existing parallel worlds. He will show a variety of drawings, etchings and paintings.

Presenting VNA Issue 22

Very Nearly Almost is here with its twenty-second issue bursting full of interviews with some of the most talented artists from around the world. This issue features Vhils (Alexandre Farto) on the cover, an artist we have been desperate to feature in VNA for a while now. With a stunning street art technique, unlike anyone else in the world, it’s hard not to want to know more about the artist who actually chisels off plaster on walls to create images and portraits.

VNA 22 not only features the technical wizardry of Vhils but also the work of American 3D woodwork artist AJ Fosik who creates striking and unique pieces, as well as geometric madness from Moneyless. We’re also lucky enough to feature some great graffiti in this issue from the UK’s finest, Tizer fresh from his first London solo show and Soker from Bristol. Eager to cover the best of what we have to offer in Britain we also caught up with long time VNA friend Miss Led and took a visit to her studio to capture her at work. We also spoke to Vexta from Australia who is flying the flag for female artists everywhere, iconic imagery based Cryptik and American design extraordinaire Blaine Fontana. As if our pages weren’t bursting with enough colour we also spoke to Look from The Weird Crew, large scale Polish graffiti crew ETAM, Cranio from Brazil and illustrator Husk Mit Navn. We’ve got a street section jam-packed full of images from Copenhagen, Buenos Aires and London, products from The Candy Store and a great little selection of the latest books.

VNA 22 is available with two alternative covers; one is exclusive to our web store and subscribers, while the other is available through our network of stockists. Pre-orders will be available in our shop from 2pm GMT on Friday 12th April and will all come with a limited edition postcard, these will be sent out on Thursday 18th April.

We will be celebrating the release of this issue at The Outsiders gallery, Greek St on 18th April where drink will be provided by Desperados. Screen-printed copies of the magazine with artwork designed by Vhils will be available to buy in limited edition packs on the night, these will come with a screen printed envelope and four limited edition postcards. You will also be able to purchase both covers of the magazine and any back issues. Cash only.

Another 20 of these will be available through our online lottery for those unable to make the launch, please email LTD@verynearlyalmost.com before 6pm on 18th April to register your interest.
