otb-flyer-front

Just Another Agency presents ‘Outside the Box’, an exhibition at No Vacancy Gallery, spanning October, and featuring 100 Australian based artists. This exhibition is unlike any other, all artists are placed on a level playing field, no matter their experience, style, or technique. Each creative will have exactly one day to create their work within the confinements of the gallery, with only the materials provided to them.

“ IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX, IT’S ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH THE BOX ITSELF. ”

Each artist has 8 hours to create a piece, faced with only 5 rules:

1 . You can only use the materials provided to you. No other materials are allowed in the space.
2. You have to physically be in the gallery space for the duration of the creating your artwork.
3. Each artist can have no longer than eight hours to create their work (10-6pm daily)
4. Reference material is allowed.
5. Think outside the box.

“Bitetime” – Ian Mutch

Bite_Time

Celebrating the release of a brand new ‘superzine’, “Bitetime” is a selection of artworks, drawings, random travels and experiences by Ian Mutch.

The exhibition explores beauty through nature and narrative, capturing snippets of the artist’s life. As a child in Africa, and travels through Asia and Japan, to the surrounds of his coastal studio in south-west Australia. The artworks immerse the viewer into a detailed view on the world.

“Bitetime” is both an exhibition and a mini journal – an intriguing colourful art booklet, neatly packaged with a build-yourself bitetime character and vinyl sticker. Ian Mutch is no stranger to print. As co-founder of Kingbrown Magazine, Mutch continues to drive the magazine’s design and packaging, experimenting with hand crafted layouts, embellishments, publishing ideas and inserts.

Opening September 3rd 2015 from 6-9pm at Just Another Project Space – 2A/127 Greville Street, Prahran

‘Get Rich or Try Dying’ – Marian Machismo

FLYER_TUES

This (Australian) summer Marian Machismo brings you ‘Get Rich or Try Dying.’ A coming of age exploration of a non-linear generation, visually characterised by Sub-Cultural Symbolism and Generational Drag.

The Cultural Huckster has returned to Just Another Project Space with a new term she has affectionally coined ‘Generational Drag’.

‘Get Rich or Try Dying’ stands as an exploration of a previously undefined cultural phenomenon, a visualisation of an idea and an account of the fashion and stylisation of a generation undefined by accepted norms.

With puns so sweet you will want to lick the wrapper, references that borderline nostalgia and a flair for performance, this is one show that you will not want to miss.

APESEVEN – DEIFIK

‘DEIFIK’ brings you a new body of work by Sydney based artist APESEVEN.

Taking heavily from recontextualizing natures patterns, DEIFIK uncovers the divine organic design in skeletal structural systems. Complex biofeedback driven landscapes take form and flight with redevelopment of old structures to provide the framework for new life.

Just Another Agency… Just Another Interview?

This is not Just Another Interview.  This is an interview with Toby, head honcho of ‘Just Another Agency’.  I have been lucky enough to hang out with Toby a few times and she is the hardest working person I have ever met!  The scene in Melbourne would not be where it is without her contribution.  Toby does. not. stop!  A ‘mum’ to almost 40 artists (and a ring-in VNA contributor), Toby kindly made some time to chat….

DW:  How did ‘Just Another Agency’ (JAA) come to exist?

JAT:  Upon moving to Melbourne from Perth in 2007 my partner and I at the time were looking for somewhere to live and we came across what I like to describe as “a squatters hole”. It was a 2 storey building containing three rooms downstairs and four rooms upstairs along with an amazing outdoor space. When we moved into it however there was no flushing toilet or electricity upstairs. However it very quickly became home. Once moving in everything else just happened. We turned the downstairs rooms into a shop front and gallery along with an outdoor exhibition space and started supporting emerging and established local, national and international artists. Located at 696 Sydney Road, Brunswick (Victoria, Australia) we only found it fitting to call the space ‘696’. However after running the gallery for three years, we decided to close taking what we loved from the space and transforming that into the agency.  Just like that, ‘Just Another ‘was born.

Analogue/Digital – Melbourne – 16 May 2014

Analogue/Digital is a two day event featuring 6 sessions, 15 presenters, a world class gallery show, a fully sponsored after party (18+) and a epic line up of artists, designers, creatives, next generation leaders and three amazing company founders.

Each presentation is projected in HD onto one of Melbourne’s biggest screens with full Dolby 7.1 Audio.

Having never been to anything like this before, I approached the event with great trepidation.  What is it going to be like?  I don’t know anyone…  What do I do?  Where do I sit?  But, in a typical fashon that I have come to expect from the art community in Australia, I was welcomed with open arms (literally!) when I hit the awesome Mr. Penfold show held at the Just Another Project Space in Prahan.

Mr Penfold – Part Time Technophobe

Analogue/Digital & Just Another Agency are proud to present the opening exhibitions for this year’s Analogue Digital – ‘Part Time Technophobe’ by UK based artist Mr Penfold.

Touring from Brisbane to Melbourne over 2014 ‘Part Time Technophobe’ delves deeper into Penfold’s obsession with hand painted artwork that looks like they could have come out of printer.
