The Miaz Brothers (Milan, 1965 and 1968) live and work in Valencia, Spain. Winners of the prestigious 5th Arte Laguna Awards Painting section in 2011, they boast exhibitions in important galleries and international art fairs. The artists are nowadays well-known for their innovative and original approach in portrait painting: through a skilful use of acrylics on canvas they produce enigmatic and evocative artworks, in which the representation appears completely blurry and out-of-focus. Stimulating mnemonic and personal associations in the viewer’s mind, their work aims to engage our visual and cognitive perception.
Last year we were lucky enough to be invited out to 1xRUN’s Murals in the Market in Detroit. The event was surprising in so many ways, from the time taken by the team to show us what the city was really about – the once-indomitable motoring capital of the USA, with a thriving industry that birthed a lot of modern Capitalist structure, that has since come back from being slammed into depression and decay – to the amount of heart and community that the organisers put into it. With barber-chair artist chats, a roster of local events and genuine support for the artists and workers involved in the festival and beyond, one message was clear, Detroit got soul.
On May 7th 2016, the king of melty metal, Buff Monster comes to Italy…
CLET (Brittany, 1966) is an Italian artist with Breton origins working in the urban context with installations over buildings and (always removable) modifications to road signs.
The artist’s main purpose is to actively claw back public spaces.
The second exhibition for Artcore International’s newest gallery, Crow’s Nest Gallery, features contemporary art from a diverse selection of international urban artists, many of whom have developed from writing illegal graffiti and have risen in popularity to exhibit at esteemed art establishments like Victoria & Albert Museum, Moniker Art Fair, Miami Basel Art Fair, Nuart Festival and Cans Festival organised by Banksy.
Portuguese artist AKACorleone is the next artist to join The Jaunt, the art and travel project that sends artists all over the world to find inspiration. Artists who have participated in the project previously include Mike Perry, Niels Shoe Meulman, Cleon Peterson, Hedof, Collin van der Sluijs, and many, many others. For AKACorleone’s trip we are traveling to Catania, on the beautiful island of Sicily, Italy. A place with it’s obvious mafia history, but also home of Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe. After AKACorleone comes home from his trip, he’ll visualize his new found inspiration into an artwork which will be produced as a limited edition screen print. This print is now for sale, at sight unseen, on the website of The Jaunt – www.thejaunt.net/trips. Make sure you order one of the prints before the trip starts, before you miss your chance!
We caught up with AKACorleone recently to get the lowdown before his Jaunt:
– Hey Pedro, What’s up? What are you working on at the moment?
Hey! All good in sunny Lisbon, super busy working on some new projects, preparing a few murals in Lisbon, also having fun experimenting with some new art pieces on my studio, I rarely have the opportunity to do this and it´s one of my favourite things, just play with new media, materials techniques, feel like a mad scientist!
