ALL GOOD THINGS

VNA_ALL GOOD THINGS_1200x1200 full

As the saying goes, ALL GOOD THINGS must come to an end and, after 10 amazing years, Very Nearly Almost Magazine is shutting up shop.

Finishing on a high that has seen the front cover graced by some of the brightest stars of the contemporary art world, including D*Face, Invader, Shepard Fairey, Futura, Swoon, Martha Cooper and more, the team behind VNA have made the difficult decision to draw this chapter to a close with an exhibition and forthcoming book.

In celebration of the incredible people that have made the magazine what it is, VNA are presenting their 10th Anniversary group show with some of the team’s favourite featured artists. 50+ artists make up this hand-picked selection of the world’s top talent, showing in one of East London’s longest-running contemporary urban art institutions, StolenSpace Gallery.

Showcasing work from all over the world, ‘ALL GOOD THINGS’ is comprised of original artworks, exclusive artist proofs and hand-finished prints from some of the leading international artists – artists who have helped shape the scene as we know it today. The VNA team has also assembled a tailored collection of some of the brightest new painters making waves across the globe.

The exhibition is all up for grabs, with artwork auctioned off on artFido and all proceeds from the auction sales donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. Bidding will begin at midday Thursday 27th April, closing at midnight on Sunday 30th April at:

On the opening night, our VNA Newsstand will be bursting with back stock, including tees, stickers and other goodies – all at bargain prices. Hidden in amongst the stand, there will be a complete set of the VNA archive, from 1 to 35, available to buy from our private collection, including limited edition PP’s – strictly one archival item per person to keep things fair!

As with anything VNA-related, there will of course be a drink or two. Our friends at Sailor Jerry have kindly furnished us with a choice of delicious bespoke spiced rum cocktails and a deuce of their finest mixologists.

As if that wasn’t enough, we’ll be providing some of the lovely Soffle’s Pitta Chips to soak up some of the booze and giving away over a hundred free tacos from Luardos – served from Insa’s hand-painted taco truck.

The show opens for public viewing from 6-9pm Thursday 27th April and daily until the 30th April 11am-7pm at: StolenSpace Gallery, 17 Osborn St, London E1 6TD

Artists include:

45RPM, AJ FOSIK, ARYZ, BLEK LE RAT, C215, CAM SCALE, CHLOE EARLY, CONOR HARRINGTON, CYRCLE, D*FACE, DAN KITCHENER, DAVE WHITE, DAVID SHILLINGLAW, EELUS, EINE, ELK / LUKE CORNISH, ERMSY, FAILE, FINTAN MAGEE, GAIA, GEORGIA HILL, GHOSTPATROL (DAVID BOOTH), HERAKUT, INSA, INVADER, JAMES JEAN, JOE HOLBROOK, KID ACNE, LISTER, M-CITY / MARIUSZ WARAS, MOBSTR, MR JAGO, MYSTERIOUS AL, NIELS ‘SHOE’ MEULMANN, PAUL INSECT, REMI ROUGH, RONE, RONZO, RUFUS DAYGLO, SHEPARD FAIREY (OBEY), SICKBOY, STENDEC, STEVE CROSS, TOASTER, THE LONDON POLICE, TILT, TIZER, TODD FRANCIS, TOM FRENCH, TRISTAN EATON (TRUSTO CORP), VHILS, WILL BARRAS

“Wipe Out: An Explosition of Invader in Hong Kong”

zinvader-wipe-out-hong-kong-1

French mosaicist Invader will be returning to Hong Kong next month for his first ever solo show there.

“Wipe Out” was conceived as a reaction to the artist’s recent negative experiences in the country, when the vast majority of Invader’s public mosaic works in Hong Kong & Kowloon were removed by the Chinese government in 2014 for “safety reasons”.

Refusing to let his global invasion plans be thwarted, Invader’s teamed up with the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Foundation and Le French May for this subsequent event at The Qube, PMQ.

The exhibition will intersperse recreations of the removed pieces with photos taken of the originals in situ. Mosaics feature dragons, dollar signs and the popular Japanese manga character Doraemon alongside his already familiar 8-bit characters. Excitingly, the artist has created a sculpture in tribute to Hong Kong legend Bruce Lee for the show, and uses LED artworks for the first time in his career.

Attendees can pick up souvenir stickers from custom vending machines at the venue, whilst an accompanying book and “FlashInvaders” app will also be on sale. The app can be used whilst at the exhibition, offering increased immersion and interaction for users. All sales at “Wipe Out” will go to Hong Kong charity Pathfinders.

“Wipe Out: An Explosition of Invader in Hong Kong” will run at The Qube, PMQ from 2 – 17 May.

Zeus – Streetopoly

Schermafbeelding 2014-11-23 om 08.42.04

Our favourite fabricator of all typography, Zeus, has been beavering away in Amsterdam working on some projects. This is his latest creation, Streetopoly, featuring a board with all the biggest players in the street art world. You can play as Kaws, Banksy, Paul Insect, Invader, Zeus, Beejoir.

The game features all the key names in the business as ‘properties’ on the board to purchase and, of course, the ever-present threat of ‘jail’ for those pursuing the more illicit activities.

Step into the VNA DeLorean

Over the past few years we’ve been lucky enough to travel round the world and meet some incredible artists and contributors to the scene, sometimes we even capture them on video. In a post reminiscent of a throw-back Thursday, but on a Friday, because we know that procrastinating is the name of the end-of-the-week game, we wanted to share with you some of our favourite videos of the last few years. A big thanks to Makesometea, The Baron, Joao Retorta & Charlie Inman for these.

VNA Artist Sticker Packs

It’s Friday and we have a super special announcement.

To celebrate reaching our twentieth issue last month and doing so as an independent publication, we decided to pay homage to some of the amazing artists we’ve been lucky enough to work with over the years, by gathering together twenty friends of VNA to create the ultimate sticker pack. With original, one-off artwork from each artist these are stickers you won’t get anywhere else and if we do say so ourselves we’ve got quite the lineup; 45RPM, A.CE, Buff Monster, D*Face, Dabs & Myla, Dscreet, Eine, Invader, Kid Zoom, LUDO, Mr Penfold, Mysterious Al, Numskull, Nychos, Richt, Ronzo, The London Police, The Toasters, The Yok & Vinnie Nylon.

The sticker packs are limited to an edition of 500, hand numbered and available to buy exclusively from our website while stocks last. A great stocking filler which we hope you’ll be as crazy about as we are. Grab them here!

Win Screen-Printed & Signed Back Issues of VNA

You’ve seen the special edition magazines we produce with each issue, you’ve yearned after them, you may even own some. But today we have created this one-off opportunity for you to get your hands on them again.

We’ve gathered together special editions from VNA issue 10, through to our most recent issue 18; which feature covers from D*FACE, INSA, ROA, EINE, SICKBOY, SHEPARD FAIREY, INVADER, THE LONDON POLICE & CONOR HARRINGTON. Oh and did we mention that they are all signed with the exception of D*Face & Roa?

There is even a super rare signed Shepard Fairey copy, which only a tiny handful of people who were given printers proofs own!

These nine screen-printed copies will be sent out at random to the next 90 people making purchases through our website. So that’s a 1 in 10 chance of receiving one in the post with your order! Madness we know. Please note this only applies to orders of £5 or over before p+p charges have been added. Good luck – once they’re gone, they’re gone, so make sure you act fast to be considered amongst that 90.
