Iminente-22

This Summer, a European cultural invasion hits the heart of Brexit Britain as the very first UK edition of Festival Iminente opens at London’s Old Truman Brewery. A two‐day festival of explosive and experimental Portuguese art and music, Festival Iminente brings the soul of Lisbon to the heart of London, following its successful debut in the Oeiras region of Lisbon in September 2016.

Curated by Portuguese artist Vhils and Lisbon’s Underdogs Gallery, Festival Iminente not only offers Brits mourning Brexit a chance to immerse themselves in the most innovative new music and art from Portugal but also enlists some of Europe’s most creatively exciting artists to invade the capital with their best work.

23rd Key – ‘Keezus’

Melbourne based 23rd Key’s solo show ‘Keezus’ opens next week at Juddy Roller in Melbourne. She took time with Damo to give us the low down on the show.

DW: Tell us more about your upcoming show at Juddy Roller. What is the concept behind it?

23rd Key: The concept behind the show is ‘ego’. I’ve tried to dissect the medium and showcase it in a way that I’ve never seen any one else do it before. It’s about what it is to be a stencil artist and the inner battle we have with who we are, who we are perceived to be, and how the two differ. I feel like there can be a real distance between the artist and the ‘audience’ when it comes to art and exhibitions. With Keezus, the theme is one that’s very close to home for me but I also wanted to do something really different with how things are displayed. I really want to bridge the gap with this show, hopefully anyone who comes to see it will walk away understanding a little bit more about stencil art and have seen it like it’s never been seen before.

Gravis – Creative Departures

So-Cal skate company, Gravis, is hosting a photo exhibition and skate contest in Antwerp. We wouldn’t normally blog anything this heavily branded, unless it was a VNA collab, but Gravis are pretty legit and this looks kinda exciting.

Creative Departures is about exploring through travel, skating, art, music, culture and cuisine. Represented through a series of videos, it is a collective interpretation of their travels and the inspirations they draw from them.

Featuring work by creative Gravis team riders and affiliates, the pop-up exhibit will showcase artists and photographers Arto Saari, Mark Oblow, Danny Fuller, Ryan Allan, George Thompson, Taylor Dunfee, Dan Funderburgh, Russell Houghten, Kassia Meador, Davy Van Laere, Miika Saksi and Stijn Claikens.

Beastman in Europe…

After a stop off at the VNA office a few weeks ago, Beastman (hailing all the way from sunny Australia) has been out and about in Europe doing his thing…

Really into how his style has progressed in the last few years… and love a the Berlin collab walls with Creepy (who is also killing it at the moment)!

Girl Power Movie

This may just be the raddest and sexiest motion picture of the year 2011 (yeah, spoiling that far ahead of the premiere). There’s paint, trains and girls allover the world bombing the hell out if any surface. You say what? That you didn’t know there’re female writers too? Well, you better keep your mouth shut. I really hope we can check it out soon.
