‘Misprints and Misfits’ – D*Face

StolenSpace Gallery is pleased to present ‘Misprints & Misfits’, a series of one off paper pieces by D*Face. Delving into the deepest depths of D*Face’s print archives, it does as it says on it’s sticky print tin, showcasing unseen paper pieces, one offs, proofs, misprints and editions never before released.

D*Face claims that screen printing changed his life, “From the first Andy Warhol canvases I saw, to the moment I walked into Surrey Skateboards and was hit by the heady smell of screen-printed decks, to the first envelope that arrived from Shepard Fairey stuffed full of OBEY stickers, or the first time I got all the magic ingredients right in the witch’s cauldron of home screen printing, and printing my first sticker sheet.”

“I have always been fascinated by the process, which in its simplest form is a very basic method of mass print production, practically the lowest rung on the ladder of printing (just after potato printing), and achievable to anyone willing to invest in the small amount of money and time needed to learn the dark art. At the same time, it is revered as the top of the printing food chain and carries with it a trade and skill that is forever being honed by master printers. It can be deeply frustrating to people trying to achieve print perfection, but liberating to those who embrace the beauty of misprints and repetition.”

Big ups to all the people that made it down to the VNA Issue 30 Limited Edition London launch at East London’s Great Eastern Bear, featuring original screen-printed box sets from New York’s finest, Futura.

It was an amazing turnout with lots of love for one of the seminal New York graffiti artists. Supported with beer from Brooklyn-based brewery, Sixpoint, as well as some Soffle’s pitta chips to soak up the sauce, and DJ LOL Cool J providing the tunes.

Ironlak and local paint supply store, Chrome & Black came through with materials for local legend D*face to put up a billboard overlooking Shoreditch with a positive message to the people, ‘Think Bike’ – a nod to all the bikers in London and one of D*face’s own personal passions.

Unwell Bunny – ‘Subtuition’ – Interview

Ed_mg_4559 copy

Damo: Who is Unwell Bunny? Can you talk us through your distinctive style?

UB: Unwell Bunny is the artistic alter ego of Ed Bechervaise, and an energetic free flowing artistic philosophy which is always evolving. The style I’d describe as hyper subversive urban pop, its a fluid clash of borrowed images, graffiti, and emotional narrative. Its full of energy and iconography and is a commentary on the time we live in.
