As the art world continues to grow and develop, we’re trying to age gracefully too, with a move towards the broader culture that surrounds street art and graffiti.
This issue we go all out with a cover featuring the work of LA-based Cleon Peterson, whose violently bacchanalian work echoes the brutality he sees in society at large.
Recently JustKids teamed up with Life Is Beautiful Festival to produce this amazing mural event. Ambitious in scope, some of the best artists from all over the world converged to transform 15 blocks of Downtown into a one-of-a-kind open-air urban gallery.
Curated by Charlotte Dutoit (JustKids) for the second year, the artists transformed the festival landscape into a magical art-inspired playground to give people a playful and unexpected escape into art. A huge abandoned motel was turned into an interactive playground and 6 installations were placed throughout the premises.
After two weeks of intense work, the murals and installations seamlessly integrate into the festival’s footprint which was visited by over 100,000 people over the course of three days, turning it into the largest North-American Street Art event.
Even though Life Is Beautiful 2014 is now finished, the murals are still visible in Downtown Las Vegas.
Contributing artists include Borondo, D*Face, Fintan Magee, Misaki Kawai, Maser, Lakwena, Roa, Li-Hill, Saner, Cyrcle, Thomas Dambo, Edoardo Tresoldi and Spencer Olsen.
After unveiling two murals last month in London with Alexis Diaz and Fintan Magee, the JUSTKIDS Collective (run by Charlotte Dutoit) is now in Puerto Rico with Cyrcle and Madsteez, Bicicleta Sem Freio and Seth where they curated the international lineup of Santurce es Ley 5, the most important urban art festival in Puerto Rico.
