Smates Paints “A Flamenco in Kyiv” For ArtUnitedUs


The ongoing mural project Art United Us recently produced some fresh new public works in Ukrainian capital. One of them is this vibrant piece by Belgian artist Smates, titled “A Flamenco in Kyiv”.
Depicting a pink flamenco bird submerging under water and creating a splash with his image, the mural continues Smates’ series of work that play with underwater effect and hyper-realism. Placed on a wall that used to host billboard advertisements, this work is anexample of what this festival is trying to achieve – battle the abundance of adds in public space by creating fresh work by world’s leading urban and street artists. Along with that the idea of the festival is to raise public awareness and attention to the problem of war, aggression and violence worldwide. With this in mind, the organizers and curators Geo Leros, Iryna Kanishcheva, Waone Interesni Kazki and Ilya Sagaidak are aiming to produce 200 walls over a period of 2 years, starting from Kiev and around the world.
