A few questions with Scott Albrecht

Last time I saw Scott, we were playing ping pong at The Marcy Project in Brooklyn.  Sadly for me, he beat me in a best of 7.  It still stings a bit.  I mention it here as a form of therapy I think.  Anyway, I’m catching up with him now as his two person show with Mary Iverson called ‘Correspondence’ has just opened at Andenken in Amsterdam on November 11th.

Aleph Exhibition : The Jaunt x The Garage x The Lost Object

I’ve known Hyland Mather (thelostobject) for many years and we’ve done quite a large number of creative projects together. Beyond the fact that I have always loved Hyland’s, Andenken Gallery, and I admire his own creating styles as an artist, I can also say with confidence that we are good friends. As part of the ongoing project, The Jaunt, I sent Hyland off to Haifa, Israel.  Tonight an exhibition to showcase the Jaunt Forma sculptures that Hyland made in honor of that trip will be on display at the famed Amsterdam local The Garage .    This is the one time that all of these sculptures will be on display before they ship out to their new homes for the collectors who supported the trip.    I caught up with Hyland in advance of the show to talk a bit about this and a bit about that.

Drew Leshko’s Tiny Decay

western-saving-fund-society_web

I first encountered Drew Leshko’s work at SCOPE Art Fair in Miami…two maybe three winters ago.  Steadily and without fail, I’ve become a bigger and bigger fan of his 1:12 classic dollhouse scale models of  gritty urban landscapes and worn travel vehicles.

On Friday October 28th,  Andenken and Makerversity Amsterdam are hosting Drew’s first solo exhibition in Europe ‘Heaven is Whenever’  .  I caught up with Drew in advance of the show.

Robert Perry of Philly’s Infamous TMOM’s Talks Creative Playground

boba

Tattooed Mom, or as it is affectionately known to Philly locals, ‘TMoms’, is a place to eat, a place to drink, and a place to meet.  You might think to call it a bar and a restaurant…but it’s actually not, it’s more of a Temporary Autonomous Zone, that just so happens to be fairly permanent.  Check it out.

Half a Dozen Questions with Graphic Surgery

graphic_surgery_13_webGraphic Surgery has been honing their brand of minimalism for quite some time now.  Their bold, simple, and striking marks in abandoned spaces and meticulously crafted work for galleries are increasingly drawing appreciation from patrons and peers.

Recently I sent over a few questions, half dozen to be exact.  GS is a duo of Dutchies, Erris Huigens, and Gysbert Zijlstra.   I sent each the questions independently, and asked them to answer them ‘blindly’ ..a kind of  The Dating Game ,  questionaire, just to see how congruent is the party line.  Turns out…pretty much on target.
