StolenSpace is proud to present ’Spitting Blood’ the new solo show by C215.
Parisian street artist C215 (Christian Guémy) has been working within the scene for over 20 years. Having taken over StolenSpace previously with his solo show ‘Back to Black’ and shown work in multiple solo shows (Reasons for the Seasons, LAX/LHR) StolenSpace are excited to see what he has instore with this new series of works.
This new body of work focuses on popular and influential musicians, painted directly onto vinyl records; incorporating both his iconic portrait style and use of found materials.
His elaborate stencil work can be found in cities around the world, including New Delhi, London, Istanbul, Fes, Rome, Barcelona, and his home town of Paris.
“I try to interact with context, so I place in the streets elements and characters that belong especially to the streets. I like to show things and people that society aims at keeping hidden: homeless people, smokers, street kids for example.”
His striking portraits of local people, children and famous characters and personalities are expressive and distinctive in style. His subjects are portrayed with a proud dignity, something which has become as recognisable to his style as his delicate stencil work.
The opening of ‘Spitting Blood’ will also include a new limited edition print release by the artist.
Opening Reception : 4 May 2017, 6 – 9pm Exhibition Dates: 5 – 28 May 2017.
