Berlin-based Japanese artist Twoone (Hiroyasu Tsuri) inaugurates the first ‘Urban Spree Art Residency’ which inverts the codes of an exhibition and invites the public to witness the process of creation of indoor and outdoor artworks. The opening reception on July 23rd, at 19.00h, presents the works originated during the residency and marks at the same time the vernissage of the exhibition. Closing day: July 24th, 12:00 – 19.00h, 2016. Location: Urban Spree Galerie, Revaler Str. 99, in Berlin-Friedrichshain.
In July 2016, Urban Spree Galerie kicks off the Urban Spree Art Residency where artists are invited to transplant their ateliers for three weeks directly in the gallery to create site-specific artworks in front of the public and offer the opportunity to engage with the artist while he’s creating and with the work-in-progress art while he’s absent. The aim hereby is to foster a dynamic approach, create bridges between the artist and the audience, provide the chance to see an exhibition created step by step, a process climaxing into the Opening.
Since the 6th of July, Twoone as the first artist to participate has been constructing artworks in the gallery space and painted a large-scale outdoor mural on the Urban Spree Artist Wall which is echoing his indoor work. Thus, the residency spills over the boundaries of the gallery to merge into the whole space. He was also joined by fellow countryman Jun Inoue to collaborate on some pieces and create some one-off t-shirts.
Besides the impressive outdoor mural (15 x 8m), this 24-hours exhibition will display a series of artworks on plexiglas, a neon installation, large format canvases, his latest screen print edited by Urban Spree.
