With street art and mural making becoming a pop culture phenomenon, lots of commercial projects around the world are including these kind of works into their agendas. One of the bigger recent ones was was “Designed on Surface” by Microsoft. Developed in partnership with Jasper Wong, the co-founder of POW! WOW!, this massive campaign included 17 cities in 12 countries.
Melbourne, Sydney, Brussels, Hong Kong, Paris, Berlin, Munich, Tokyo, Shibuya, Lisbon, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Madrid, Taipei, Austin, New York, and Long Beach were the places where local artists created new murals over the course of 5 weeks. Using the motto “Do Great Things” as an inspiration, and Microsoft Surface devices as a work tool, the idea was to promote inspiration and creativity by mixing art & technology. Along with mutual message each mural has a blue border and features different imagery that artists find inspirational – people, places, things and symbols. The list of featured artists include Persue, Odeith, Wonderlust, Frankie Cihi, Ink and Clog, Jasper Wong, and many more.
