The Jaunt have just announced their tenth trip of the project. For this trip they have booked flights to Istanbul, Turkey, with Dutch legend Niels ‘Shoe’ Meulman and will be producing a brand new print along the way – selling them for 60 Euro’s, which is probably the most amazing deal around for a Shoe print.
The first Shoe tags appeared on the Amsterdam streets around 1979, and haven’t left since. From becoming a legend at 18, to running an advertising agency and now exhibiting worldwide, his work is affiliated with style wherever he goes. In 2007 he launched the ‘Calligraffiti’ movement, an art form that fuses calligraphy and graffiti.
Since then numerous shows and murals all over the world have followed, along with a series of publications and high prole collaborations. It’s a true honor to send Shoe towards Istanbul, where he will undoubtedly find inspiration amongst this buzzing metropole. As part of his trip to Istanbul, Shoe will also be hosting an exhibition of new works at the Istanbul location of the renowned 290sqm concept store.
Istanbul is one of the most populous cities in the world with its 14 million inhabitants, although it can quickly feel like it’s closer to 20 million people in the always buzzing city. It’s thriving, exciting, rich of history and the gate way between Europe and Asia. The city was founded as Byzantium in 660 BC, and served as the capital of the Roman, Byzantine, Latin and Ottoman empires. Nowadays it’s not only a major tourist destination, but also one of the fastest growing metropolitan economies in the world. The rich diversity between the cultural past and present of Istanbul give the city its unique character.
