Salon De Refuses…

The other week I got invited to head up to Nottingham and judge a submission based exhibition of street art at Surface gallery called “Salon De Refuses”. This was a satellite exhibition, part of the Nottingham Castle Street Art: Contemporary Prints from the V&A show at the Castle.

It was an open call exhibition, so all walks of life and all ages where able to exhibit and sell work to the general public. It was a real diverse show and quite a challenge to judge. Heres some pics…

In the end, I chose a piece by local artist Mr The Beef to be the winner…

As I said, it was a real challenge because there was some really great art on display. I really liked the simplicity of this piece, the use of different mediums and the exectution of a good idea in the form of a screenprint.

Thanks to Tristram Aver for inviting me up.

All images by Anthony Hopwood except the last image by Tristram Aver and his mobile phone.

The show ends on Saturday, so go check it out if you can.
