Exit through the gift shop…

Sorry, its more Banksy news…

VNA were lucky enough to be invited to a screening on wednesday of Banksy’s first movie “Exit through the gift shop” at the make-shift Lambeth palace. The cinema, based in Leake Street under Waterloo station is also part exhibition of some old and new Banksy artworks. With a belly full of free booze and popcorn we took some snaps and then sat down to watch the movie. And as the BC crew at the back of the cinema whooped and shouted, the movie began…

More pics and a review of sorts after the jump…

Having been asked to supply some stills and video footage for the film late last year, we were quite aware of this film and the general story line but this film was not what I expected. It starts with a general look at the world of street art with some amazing footage of artists from all over the world. Soon the film develops into the story of videographer Thierry Guetta and his life mission of documenting everything on film. When he discovers street art he gets to work on making a film… I wont spoil it for you but he never quite makes the film, Banksy makes it for him as he turns himself in to the street artist Mr Brainwash and starts taking the art world for a ride.

Its a great movie and getting to see footage of Banksy cutting stencils, putting up work and just walking on the street is pretty dope. I do feel that Banksy never quite put the boot into MBW… He lets you know that MBW did this all the wrong way and to be fair that he is slightly retarded but he never lets everyone know what a complete joke the whole thing is. Well if he does he does it very subtly. Shit… I need to watch the movie again. maybe sober this time.

If you can see it at the Lambeth Place, DO IT! Its well worth it, if not… Wait for the end of next week.

Heres some pics…
